the gods are still not to be blamed...

SAM MFONISO

The gods could argue that they informed them of the curse.
All that was needed was to get rid of the offending child. But then how do you fight the gods? they would always win..

LET THE SLEEPING BOSS LIE

LET THE SLEEPING BOSS LIE.

I have heard people say soldiers come, soldiers go but the barracks remain. They forgot to add that when some soldiers leave, a piece of the barracks leaves with them
.The day could not have gotten off to a worse start, than to hear of the sad demise of one who distinguished himself first as player, and secondly as coach of a very demanding yet highly unappreciative footballing country.

As I gradually come to terms with the sad news of Stephen Keshi's death, let this be a tribute to him on behalf of those who never met him in person but felt the happiness he brought a nation. As I write, I humbly pray I do not slip into the realm of hypocrisy, sycophancy or flattering, but merely give the man the accolades he deserves.

At birth, our parents name us, but as we grow we come to earn names for ourselves by our actions, inactions and general behaviour from those who know us best. From personal observation, nothing speaks of a man's character and personality more than what his friends call him.

The name given at birth by parents is a mere prophesy, a reflection of parental hope and expectation. It is an attempt to paint the future. On the other hand, the nicknames and pet names from peers, serve as statements of the past and present, making them a much fairer indication of who men really are.
No wonder Jesus hushed his disciples, for neither flesh nor blood had revealed his personality to them.

The Big Boss, as he was fondly called was not another chieftaincy title acquired, or name bought with silver and gold like our good-for-nothing politicians do, but one rightfully earned through the shedding of blood, sweat and tears.

They say he was a fighter; he stood up for his team mates against a traditionally incompetent and nonchalant football authority. As a player, he was brandished a dissident, a rebel leader who sowed seeds of discords and rancour in the team and stirred up mutiny against the football association.

You can't blame him; militancy is the only way you get what is rightfully yours in this part of the world. To be born you must fight, to breathe you must fight, to live you must fight, to die you must fight, even to rest in peace you must also fight. He fought many fights and won just as many, but for every Napoleon there is a waterloo.

When death came, I'm sure he must have put up a fight again, but like a king on the chess board who had lost his queen, he was fighting a lost battle this time. There lies no shame in losing to the insatiable reaper, for it is the inevitable destiny of all mortals.

The night was dark and the beer was cold, when I as a corp member, and other members of the community in Amankwo village (I hope I got the spelling right this time) had gathered at the biggest open bar and restaurant in Abia state to watch the finals of the 2013 AFCON on a blurry projector screen.

For 13 years I had carried a broken heart, memories of the 2000 finals defeat to Cameroun haunted me. Like the man by the pool of Bethesda, every two years I had looked forward to the coming of the angel, sorry coach; who would stir the waters of victory and continental glory, hoping that my darling Super Eagles would be the first to jump in and be healed of years of protracted under achievements.

Time after time, it was Cameroun, Egypt, Tunisia or Zambia that made it to my contestation, as well as dismay of fans across the country. When it mattered most, my Eagles always found a way of falling short, where there was no way they invented one. Leaving the carcass of my optimism naked on the altar of failure again and again.

But as it was for the man by the pool, it was not the season for the stirring of the water. CAF, probably aware that there was no more room for further heartbreaks in my poor heart and worried that another two year wait to try again posed serious danger, decided to tweak the date of the completion and organised another edition one year after the 2012 finals. Like the biblical messiah, the Big Boss showed up and said "take up your trophy and go home".

Straight way, Joseph Yobo mounted the podium and did as commanded. Thus, conferring on a nation her third and long overdue title. Events of that night remain evergreen in my mind. Whenever the grim realities of life tend to weigh me down, I just board a time machine and take a trip to history. All of these were made possible by the Big Boss. He did in about two years what Clemens Westerhof took five years to achieve, but never got the recognition he deserved as is usually the case with a prophet in his hometown.

There is nothing more fulfilling in life, than having lived your life giving joy to those around and far away from you. Whenever the gospel of how the Super Eagles became super again, and conquered Africa will be preached, the Big Boss will always be mentioned.

While my deepest thoughts, earnest prayers and sincere wishes are with the family of the deceased, fellow Nigerians, weep not for the Big Boss but for the current state of our football. For as George Santayana said "for a man who has done his natural duty, death is as natural as sleep." So let the sleeping Boss lie.

Ghost, Ghost Ghost!!! Everywhere Ghost...

My Encounter With Percieved Ghost......
By Tobi  SAM...
Published/ Edited by Mfoniso Sam

In our modern times now, we no longer need to dream bad Dreams or visit strange places before we see Ghosts...Yes.
They live and breathe around Us.
I woke up early enough one fine morning in Akwa-Ibom state to make it to the Eye Clinic on time and possibly be one of the first three patients the consultant was to attend to. They say the early bird catches the earthworm. By being one of the first three patients there was a fair chance of finishing before mid day, rush home, do my laundry in time and prepare for Sunday. I finally made it to the reception hall panting mouth wide open as I desperately tried to catch my breath. Four patients were already sitted. So much for all my efforts I told myself. Well number five didn't seem to bad a position, just two places outside my target and as such I could still finish in good time.

I took my sit and waited to be given tag number 5. I was bewildered to see number 14 on my tag and considered calling the nurse's attention to the mix-up. On a second thought perhaps the number 14 meant 1+4. It crossed my mind that the best time to search for the black goat was before night comes. I sought to know what happened to number 5. I was politely told 'Mfoniso SAM' you are number fourteen (14).  My eyes are not that bad, I can only see four persons with my physical eyes here, I can here the voices of four waiting patients and count only four with my fingers. So I asked "where are the rest nine" that have pushed me from number 5 to 14? They were there, I just couldn't see them and don't blame me. The ordinary eyes were not meant to see the 'non-ordinary'

My encounter with ghosts precedes and extends beyond my visits to the hospital. In the University it was common to have an average class attendance of 50-60 students during lectures, only for the number to be thrice as much on the day of exams. Some called them non-academic students, others called them off shore students but I knew better. They were ghost students. They had registration numbers but no faces. They never attended classes, neither did they do assignments. A few of them showed up for exams, whatever the case they often got better grades than those of us that were made of flesh and blood. Where there are students, there will be lecturers. So ghosting was not only done be students, I had ghost lecturers. There were like oracles, they could not be seen or approached. Their high priests were course reps, mediating between them and us across the great divide. We only knew their names and spoke about them in hush tones with fear and trembling. The last thing you wanted was war against ghosts.

They were also invisibly present or perhaps absent during my youth service days. Most of them never camped, the few that did never made it to their PPAs. I heard rumours some were doing masters degrees overseas, some were doing businesses in other parts of the country. Well, when time was up and we had to pass out, a good number of them were available . A more ghostly number of them never showed up at all. From the first parade in camp on the hills of Okene to Sagamu (Ogun State)  to the last salute on Passing Out Parade (POP) day they were never seen. They were neither in the rain nor under the sun in service of motherland, but like flesh and blood,  like ordinary mortals they passed out and are in custody of their discharge certificates.

These Ghosts are everywhere. In a society like ours they have similar or even greater rights and privileges than those that can be seen and touched. Memories of the 2007 elections just crossed my mind. Sitting by the radio waiting as results filtered in, the results were funny although they were not laughing matters. In most of the results from the pooling centres the number of voters that voted in favour of one party exceeded the number of registered and accredited voters. The reason for the mysterious positive difference left me bewildered. I didn't know then what I know now; that ghosts live and dwell among us or is it us among the ghosts? They perform civic duties and determine winners and losers in matters as weighty as choosing governors and president.

You find them in the civil service earning monthly salaries. They are also amongst retirees receiving pensions. Respect them, regardless of the fact that you don't see them. They have their rights and contribute in no small way to society's development and under development. To challenge them or deny them of their entitlements is to wage war against what you can't see. There can only be one winner. Ghost patients, ghost students, ghost lecturers, ghost workers, ghost pensioners, ghost dads and ghost mums; did I just hear someone whisper ghost president?

Our Life... An Epitome of Hope And Fortune

OUR DAILY LIFE, AN EPITOME OF HOPE AND FORTUNE

Sometime Ago, In Uyo....
I watched a local football match in a
street.
As I sat down, I asked one of the boys
what the score was.
With a proud smile, he replied; "They are
leading us 3-0" !!!
REALLY !!!
I have to say you don't look discouraged.
"Discouraged?" the boy asked with a
puzzled look. Why
should I be discouraged when the referee
has not blown the
final whistle ?
Truly, I didn't have an answer to this
question!(right there in the field)..
As I got back home that night, his question
became a course
in my stay in life indeed. It keep repeating like a siren asking for clear path. ""Why, Why, Why Why....... Should i be discouraged when the referee has not blown the final whistle"" The question kept Ringing in my Thought...
Life is like a game .
Why should you be discouraged when your
referee... the
Almighty God has not blown the final whistle on
your life?
The truth is that as long as there is life,
nothing is impossible
& it is never too late for you.
Half time is not full time & HIS calendar is
not man's.
Don't blow the whistle on yourself.
2017 is Nearby
Victory will surely come........
Shallom.

FORGIVENESS.

              .....................TOBI Eyitayó

Its not about evaluating the act done by the person
and deciding to let go.
Its not about envisaging the future or getting a
promise that it won't happen again.
Its not about the sincerity of the apology, remorse,
 regret or repentance.
Forgiveness is about the value of the relationship.
It is a love decision.
It is purging ourselves of hate and letting love lead.
It is about following the example of our Father.
It is Love in action.
I Forgive for my sake. I forgive because the love I
have for you greatly exceeds the pain you have
caused me. You have hurt me and I feel betrayed
because I thought I deserved better. Its hard
to forget. Its hard to act like nothing happened.
I can't do this by myself.
But God's love worketh mightily in me and
I DECIDE to forgive forever. No record of wrongs
kept. Never referring to it again.
For your sins and transgressions I will remember
 no more...

AFRICAN TIME

  AFRICAN TIME______sam Mfoniso

Time Was Created by the Romans, The Americans Invented CLOCK.
I Prefer Not To subscribe To The Western Concept, I follow the Sun not Time, not the Wall clock, not the wrist, hand/leg watch.
After all Am An African...

But then it Answers the Big Question posed by the Whites,

""Why Dont You Blacks(Africans) like to be on time Anywhere?...  Ehhh?

Two Answers..
The First One have already Said Above√.. (Polite Answer)
But the Second Answer.. Straight forward but rude..
>> African Time>>> Its our own time we invented, You invented yours , we also invented ours
After all, they say blood is thicker than water, so i prefer the time our own brothers (Africans) created to yours ...
Pls dont blame us, we are Africans,  we just needed to invent Our OWn Time (clock)..
Pls dont blame us..
Pls dont blame us..
We Are Africans (African clock) sorry Time

But then, If you are not an African son/daughter, and you choose not to follow the western time, or be on time at any given situation.. Or worse You chose to Use our own invented African time...
I,m sory or i,ll rather weep for you,
Like my yoruba Brodas would conclude O.Y.O is your case..
Start Following the Mooon... After all it rises very late at night..
But we Africans are Africans...

ADJUSTING TILL DEATH?

 ADJUSTING TILL DEATH?

Live Blogger

This is a blog post by Sam Mfoniso....I once heard the story of how a frog can instantly jump out of a situation and how it can adjust to the same situation.

If you start boiling water and you throw the frog into the water that’s already boiling, the frog will jump out immediately.
But if you throw the frog into very cool water and you start boiling gradually, the frog will adjust to the temperature gradually until it eventually dies.

What situations have you been adjusting to that you are supposed to jump out of? There are so many things that we seem to get used to just because they did not happen to us suddenly. We don’t realize the weight or the consequence of adjusting to such things in our lives.

Some people have adjusted to abusive relationships. Others have been adjusting to abusive bosses just because they think they cannot get another job elsewhere. I have seen some people work in the most inhumane conditions all because they think there is no job out there or that it is okay to stick to something. They think that half bread is better than none.

While I teach consistently on the need to persevere and be patient in life, I do not, for whatever reason, teach that people should not open their eyes and know that they are killing themselves or suffering for no reason while they think they are persevering.

Don’t adjust to the life situations that will kill you just because the issue of death is not pronounced in it. It is important to adjust to situations in life but in your own case, what are you adjusting to? Why are you adjusting to what you are adjusting to?

There are those whose situations may not even kill them physically but by the time they are done adjusting to their situations, their minds would have been dead. That means they were ignorantly adjusting to situations that gradually killed their minds. Once a man’s mind is dead, the man is as good as dead.

All his creativity and ability to dream would have been killed. No matter how hard things get for you, never adjust to a situation that will kill your mind and your creative ability to either dream or hope again.

You need to know that some things will come your way in life just to take away your strength to persevere or your strength to hold on. There may be times when you lose physical strength. It happens. No one can retain the same level of strength all through life.

We all have a way of retreating and making sure we regain lost strength. Even at that, we know that the most important thing is not the lost strength. The more important thing is the mind behind the strength.

Sometimes we are like the batteries of cell phones or other devices. It is okay for the battery to run down. There is no problem with that. The only time there is a real problem is when you get to where you are to charge the battery, you have the chargers and there is electricity, and the battery refuses to charge.

In your pursuits in life, you will meet people who seem interested in you and are also trying to help you through the challenging times. Unfortunately what some of them want to do to you is to help you adjust to the situations that will kill you.

As you share your dreams with them and you pursue those dreams, they tell you to take it easy. They ask you to slow down. They remind you of how many other people are taking it easy until you give up the pursuit of worthy ambitions and remain a mediocre in life.

You have a choice to remain committed and never adjust to situations that kill you. Don't adjust to situations that will weaken or kill your mind gradually or to gradually slow down on those pursuits, give up slowly and then begin to adjust physically. Don't be like the frog that can adjust to situations that creep in but reacts to sudden situations.

What are you adjusting to today? Are those things going to help you or kill you? Watch them and be sure you are adjusting to the right things.

would you let Experience be your Teacher?

Why Should Experience Be Our Best Teacher ..........Sam Mfoniso

Article was Remodified by Mfoniso Sam
                                          08132210399

It is often said that experience is the best teacher, but to learn by experience is to learn from mistakes, to learn from past failures and pains. It means you have burnt your fingers and now your eyes are open. This is a tough, costly and inconvenient way to learn. Rather than leaving our learning to experience, why do we not learn consciously through wisdom??We can learn by consciously going out of our way to acquire knowledge and wisdom rather than leaving our learning to chance. Surely believe me, even me have learnt from mistakes, but why wait when we make mistakes before we learn?

We should give more premium to learning by wisdom than by experience. This will involve one making up ones mind to be decisive in learning. We must decide to learn consciously and not necessarily from negative experiences.

Our life now is the sum total of our decisions and our future will be determined by our decisions today. If we decide to learn today we are not likely to make mistakes and when we do not make mistakes experience needs not be our best teacher.

To avoid making it our best teacher, we will take more than decisions. We must couple our decision with a complete and whole hearted devotion. We must be resolved, resolute and resilient in our bid to learn by wisdom and not necessarily experience.. This is crucial because situations and circumstances will want us to make a detour and leave our learning and life to CHANCE. (God forbid)

We must be discipline also in a way that learning something new everyday should be by wisdom rather than experience, it means consciously getting better day by day in your chosen field. Discipline will demand taking advantage of every learning that comes our way. It means we must pay the price for learning by wisdom, invest in books, magazines, seminers, be hardworking and other means other than experience..

On a final Note, it is much easier and cheaper to consciously learn by wisdom than to learn by experience. When we learn by experience the deed is done and we are just picking up the pieces>>>>learning in regret how to avoid such predicament next time. Consider the child who grasps a burning coal, he has learned the hardway with burnt fingers through a painful experience but his fingers will remain burnt..Why then should i make experience a techer talk less of being my BEST-TEACHER. (GOD FORBID). Well  if it happens that way, then we are left with one only real option>>> RE- introduce Christ..>>Why wait till then...   I,ll leave you with these verse of the scripture, "Work out your Salvation now with fear and trembling"....                                                            Shallom!

Can We??

#Can_We_Still_Echo About #Love  ...from My Desk (Mfonizo Sam)
but in all life's Sojourns, To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin
of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change.
It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable_impenetrable_irredeemable..and yhess it will metamorphors into a Machine"
To love is to be vulnerable
But then, Emotions like, Happynez, Sadnes, pity, compation, kindnes, stress, frustrations are all offshoots of doing the things we LOVE AND HATE.
b4 u start metamorphosing into the " invulnerable non-feeling,
do remember, that there's a hopeles man out there by d corner of the road in need of your charmin smile, that there's a sad kid by the mom in need of you to make funny faces at him to lighten his day,,
and yess that there is a lovely lady out there praying and fasting fervently, to have someone with a kind heart like yours, to love..   God bless you
